Hi I’m Fiona and I’ve been a teacher all my life.
I always used to think that technology was over-rated. I thought touchscreen phones were for people with no friends, and I cried the day my workplace brought in flashy interactive whiteboards to replace the perfectly good chalkboards.
I resisted for so long – I thought computers were just a novelty or something to pass the time if the teachers hadn’t prepared a lesson!
When the interactive whiteboards failed to attract new students and the school went bust, I had to find a way of doing what I loved best – teaching. So I learnt how to tutor online and to create online courses. It was a steep learning curve and whenever I needed help, there was nowhere to go. The ‘techy’ people that I contacted either didn’t have a clue, or were only interested in big companies paying big bucks.
So after a lot of research, hundreds of online tutorials and hours spent on online forums, I got to where I wanted to be tech-wise. But it took a LOT of time, tantrums and tears, studying in the evenings after work and driving my family mad most weekends. The good news is that I’ve done all of that so that you don’t have to! I aim to help people get over their technological fears and I certainly won’t blind you with science (if only I could).
My mission is to help you learn and use technology to run your own business, community project or hobby. And I use tools that are free as much as I possibly can, so that your budget doesn’t stop you from doing what you want to do. I’m still not an expert, but if I don’t know the answer, I know where to find it.
